Ogata brings decades of experience to each piece, having trained at the Aichi Prefectural Ceramics Technical College and worked independently in Seto, Aichi before moving his studio to Uda, Nara in 2007. His work reflects a steady dedication to the craft, using both wood-fired climbing kilns and gas kilns to achieve distinctive finishes.

  • Handmade by artist Atsushi Ogata, born in Tokyo in 1960 and trained in traditional ceramic techniques.
  • Fired using both climbing kiln (noborigama) and gas kiln methods for varied surface effects.
  • Studio relocated to Uda, Nara in 2007, continuing a legacy of independent pottery since his time in Seto, Aichi.
  • A timeless, conservative design suitable for everyday use or display.

Kevin ★★★★★

I’ve been using this as my everyday rice bowl, and the weight in my hands feels perfectly balanced. The hand-thrown shape gives each piece a subtle asymmetry that makes it feel special, not factory-made.

Michael ★★★★★

The glaze has this incredible depth that shifts in the light, making it feel like holding a piece of art. I’ve already used it for miso soup and rice bowls, and the hand-thrown quality really stands out.

Edward ★★★★★

The glaze has this subtle, earthy texture that catches the light beautifully — you can really feel the potter's hand in every curve. Perfect size for a hearty bowl of miso soup or rice.
